Karen Naccarelli was appointed as Assistant Director, Insurance Program Administration in November 2020. She regularly interacts with program stakeholders from other federal agencies such as the Department of Defense and the uniformed military services as well as representatives of the commercial insurer that administers the Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) program.Karen began her career with the VA Regional Office and Insurance Center in November of 1980, as a Veterans Claims Examiner in the Insurance Claims Division.She has held numerous other positions within the Insurance Center, and most recently before being appointed as Assistant Director, held the role of Chief, Policy and Procedures, VBA Insurance Service. Brian Schofield was appointed the Manager of the National Contact Center in May 2020. He is responsibile for overseeing a staff of approximately 175 employees who are tasked with providing timely and accurate telephone service to Veterans, Servicemembers, their families and survivors. Mr. Schofield’s career in the Veterans Benefits Administration began in 2010 in the Philadelphia Pension Management Center as a Veterans Service Representative (VSR) and Senior VSR. In 2017, he was selected as a Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist in the National Contact Center. Prior to his time with the VBA, Mr. Schofield began his career in federal service as a park ranger in the National Park Service. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Mr. Schofield went on to pursue a Master’s in Public Administration from Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey, with a focus on Public Management.
