Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, also called Coronary Angioplasty, Using Stents or a Catheter With a Balloon at Its Tip

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) is a non-surgical procedure used to widen coronary arteries that have been blocked or narrowed. The procedure involves the use of a catheter to place a stent in the heart, opening the blood vessels and improving blood flow.

Thrombolytic Medication Given Through the Veins to Dissolve Blood Clots

Thrombolysis is a treatment used to dissolve clots that develop in the blood vessels and improve blood flow throughout the body. Thrombolytic Medications are sometimes given through an intravenous line (IV) to ensure distribution directly to the affected area.

Aortic Aneurysm Repair

The traditional and most common type of surgery for aortic aneurysms is open chest repair. It involves a major incision in the chest. General anesthesia is needed with this procedure. The aneurysm is removed and the section of aorta is replaced with an artificial graft made of material such as Dacron® or Teflon®.

Balloon Angioplasty

A specially designed catheter with a tiny balloon is carefully guided through the artery to the blockage, then inflated to widen the opening and increase blood flow to the heart. A stent is often placed during the procedure, to keep the artery open after the balloon is deflated and removed.

Balloon Valvuloplasty

A valvuloplasty, also known as balloon valvuloplasty or balloon valvotomy, is a procedure to repair a heart valve that has a narrowed opening. In a narrowed heart valve, the valve flaps (leaflets) may become thick or stiff and fuse together (stenosis). This reduces blood flow through the valve.

Bioprosthetic Valve Replacement

Bioprosthetic heart valves are most commonly either made of bovine (cow) or porcine (pig) tissue. Of course the main advantage of a bioprosthetic valve is that there is not typically the need for life long blood thinning medication and therefore a significantly lower risk of bleeding.

Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

Coronary artery bypass surgery is a treatment for coronary artery disease (blocking or narrowing of the arteries that carry blood an oxygen to the heart).

What is inpatient rehabilitation?

Inpatient rehabilitation refers to comprehensive physician management of patients hospitalized at a rehabilitation facility receiving physical and occupational therapy. Patients will typically require these services after catastrophic injuries such as Traumatic Brain Injury or Spinal Cord Injury. Patients may also require the services after other events such as Cerebrovascular Accidents/strokes, amputations, orthopedic injuries such as spinal or hip fracture requiring surgical management etc. Patients may also require such services after prolonged hospitalizations from infections like pneumonia or urinary tract infection, falls at home resulting in injuries that have been treated nonoperatively but continue to have pain and weakness and result in general deconditioning.

Patients may also require post hospitalization visits with Dr. Agana to continue to ensure safety and progress at home while managing outpatient therapy or home health services. This provides a continuum of care patients may require after discharge from acute care facilities to ensure functional independence.

What is outpatient rehab?

Outpatient rehab is a great way for people to receive guidance as they adjust to life outside of rehab. Finding a support group is one of the first steps that they need to take after treatment. Before that, however, outpatient programs provide the support that they need.

Why do people not have to pay to live in a hospital?

Because of the lower cost, more insurance companies partially cover the expense of outpatient programs. In fact, some insurance companies won’t pay for anything other than outpatient care.

Can trauma lead to drug addiction?

In many cases, traumatic events lead to drug addictions as people try to forget what happened. Avoiding the trauma can lead to relapse once they exit rehab. We make it a point to address the problem so that the healing process can start. Find out if outpatient rehab is right for you.

Do people in rehab sleep in their own beds?

Since they don’t live at the rehab center, they get to sleep in their own beds every night. This approach allows them to continue living a normal life while they get help. On another positive note, outpatient rehab is typically less expensive than inpatient rehab.

Is inpatient rehab a good idea?

While inpatient rehab is always a good starting point, there are many more options out there. Outpatient rehab is a great example that can be a standalone treatment or offer support after inpatient treatment. Below is more information about outpatient programs and how they can help prevent relapse.
