What is substance rehab?
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
How does family counseling help with addiction?
This helps families move toward recovery. Family Counseling, facilitated by a licensed counselor, encourages the client’s family to identify, discuss and address issues related to the client’s addiction. Multi-family Counseling group counseling is a forum for multiple families to come together to share experiences and support each other. Multi-family group counseling not only encourages families, it helps them understand the nature and consequences of addiction.
How long is a group therapy session?
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). Clients participate in 2-hour, weekly group therapy sessions for six weeks. These sessions help clients address the clinical problems outlined in their treatment plans in a safe, therapeutic environment where they can explore their own problems and encourage others to do the same. Through the program, CCS staff teach clients how to overcome self-defeating attitudes with new problem-solving and emotional skills.
What is CBT therapy?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.
What is the purpose of DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.
What is CCS counseling?
CCS clients who require individual counseling services are connected to dedicated addiction counselors. During one-on-one sessions, addiction counselors use the client’s evaluation and rehab plan to guide him or her through the process of exploring, verbalizing and working through addiction-related issues. The undivided attention that clients experience during individual counseling sessions equip them to achieve lasting sobriety and healing.
What is aftercare at Caron Renaissance?
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn’t spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). Caron Renaissance patients can count on them to remain by their sides after treatment. They do everything possible to equip each patient for sober living before treatment ends and through the first year of recovery. One week prior to discharge, every patient at Caron Renaissance receives personalized Continuing Care planning in order to maximize their abilities to live lives of sobriety, serenity, and sustained recovery.

How does detox work?
Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body , a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. At Caron Pennsylvania, patients undergo detox in an on-site, self-contained detoxification unit. Caron Renaissance is not an acute care facility and therefore does not offer detox services on site; however, they can arrange for transfers from hospitals and other healthcare centers once patients have finished detoxing.

The National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP) is a professional association that represents organizations in the field of addiction services. Founded in 1978, NAATP's mission is to advance addiction services and ensure that high-quality addiction treatment is available and accessible.
How does addiction affect families?
Addiction and behavioral health issues affect persons with substance abuse problems and their loved ones. They understand that the families of addicts are deeply affected. Family members want to help their loved one, but the situation is delicate. Sometimes, the addiction becomes the family’s focus, throwing it into chaos. Addiction to drugs and alcohol inevitably leads to pain, confusion, and sadness. At Caron, they believe the patient is the family, and the family is the patient. In other words, they believe it’s crucial (and in some cases required) for the family to be engaged in holistic rehabilitation from the very beginning of the pre-admission process. They bring family members into the admission and assessment process from the start, so that their input can form the basis for a personalized addiction treatment plan. At Caron Renaissance, they pair new families with an alumni family “buddy” who can provide support, answer questions, and share experiences.

How does fitness therapy work?
Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered , motivated , and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.
