The impact of teleaudiology could be tremendous during the next decade; with the help of telecommunications technology, many underserved areas, both in the United States and around the globe, could receive quality hearing care promptly without traveling long distances or waiting for weeks, months, or longer. Besides the provision of clinical services (hearing screening, assessment, fitting hearing aids, mapping cochlear implants, treatment and management, counseling), teleaudiology has the potential for use in educating and training health care professionals, paraprofessionals, parents, and the community at large, especially in areas around the world where there is a paucity of trained service providers. Teleaudiology offers the potential to provide services to underserved populations as well as to culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
