What is physical therapy?

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program provides physical therapy services for patients with various pulmonary diseases. This multi-faceted approach will include education in the disease process, breathing and relaxation techniques, pulmonary medications, and nutrition. Every patient receives individualized therapy sessions including an evaluation to determine functional problems related to the disease process.

What to expect from a therapy program?

The program has been developed using examination techniques, outcome measures and treatment plans based on the latest scientific evidence. Treatments can include strengthening, endurance training and breathing exercises which are tailored to each individual's personal needs and goals.

What is primary support?

Primary support persons are those who normally provide you with significant physical, psychological, or emotional support. These support people will generally be able to visit at any time during the hospital stay (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Can you withdraw visitation consent at Upstate University Hospital?

Upstate University Hospital will only restrict visitors when medically necessary. Patients may withdraw visitation consent at any time by discussing their wishes with a nurse. Please wash hands or use hand sanitizer when you enter and leave patient rooms.
