What happens in rehab during Detox
The detox process depends on many factors, age, length of time using, what substances have been abused and any health conditions. Typically substance abuse detox lasts from 5 to 10 days depending on those factors.
What is Residential Treatment?
In the pioneering days of treatment, most substance abuse treatment was performed in a large hospital. These were medical complexes and the treatment lasted 4 weeks or 28 days.
Sample Daily Rehab Schedule
After a person has detoxed they can enter residential care. The days in residential care are very structured. Below is a typical daily schedule:
What Happens in Rehab During Meal Time
Eating healthy is not even a thought to many people during their addictions. Alcoholics drink a phonemical amount of calories and substance abusers either overeat or don’t eat regularly so in treatment this all has to be addressed.
Contacting My Loved One While in Rehab
As you know the life of someone abusing chemical substances sucks the life out of everyone that loves them. There is the constant worrying about what might happen to them when they are using and their unknown whereabouts. There are those dreadful phone calls requesting money, explosive behavior or frustration trying to reach them.
Admission to a Rehabilitation Centre
Inpatient, or residential, treatment lengths of around 90 days, has for severe addictions, been proven to be more effective than shorter stay in rehab. If a patient has developed tolerance to the drug or alcohol and suffers withdrawals then detoxification is necessary and will most likely not take place as an out-patient.
Safe Environment Essential for Detox of Drug and Alcohol Addiction
Detox is the cleansing of the body of harmful substances, requiring 24 hour monitoring. Medication is used to control symptoms of withdrawal and must be managed by a medical professional. A high fluid intake is encouraged and B vitamins are often taken to manage the stress occurring within the body during detoxification.
Rehab Programmes Use Multiple Therapies for Recovery of Addiction
In a supportive environment a combination of therapies will be offered to suit the needs of each individual and their varied addiction history.
Philosophy of Addiction Rehabilitation Programmes
As well as therapy, each rehabilitation centre will have a philosophy which acts as a guideline for clients to follow and assess their progress. A popular and established approach to the treatment of alcoholism and addiction are the 12 Step facilitation programmes.
Continuing Care for Sobriety for Long Term Benefits
