Jacob’s Ladder hosts a tailored movie showing monthly for children who have sensory or other special needs. The theater lights are left on low and the sound is turned down to medium offering a great environment for children who are easily intimidated by bright light and loud sounds. For many, this is one of few opportunities to enjoy a typical family outing in a judgement free zone. There is an average of 100 people (special needs children and their families) that attend this program each month.

How does water therapy help children?

Program outcomes include: relaxation of stiff muscles help children to gain flexibility; gravity reduced environment helping to build gross motor strength; teaches proprioceptive processing so children are aware of their body in space; natural resistance in water helps to build strength and provide sensory input for Autistic children; the hydrostatic pressure in water also helps the heart to circulate blood and decrease blood pressure as well as reduce stress. This is a weekly program with 8-10 children and their families participating.
