What is recreational therapy?
Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.
What is substance rehab?
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
What is transitional living?
The transitional living facility is at a different location and is geared for learning how to keep God first as the patient enters into the work force. During this phase of the program they offer job placement, money management class, group therapy and various other beneficial activities. This program is highly recommended if the patient is looking for a life changing experience.
What is group therapy?
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
What is individual therapy?
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
What is life skills training?
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
How does nicotine affect the heart?
Nicotine is a stimulate, and it raises blood pressure, and is a vasoconstriction, making it harder for the heart to pump through the constricted arteries. It causes the body to release its stores of fat and cholesterol into the blood.
Can you leave Miracle Lake?
You are not to leave the Miracle Lake grounds without permission or supervision. There will be no trips to town or weekends off while you are in the 10-week program. If you leave the property without permission, it will result in an immediate dismissal.
