Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.
What is the foundation program?
The Foundation program asks that a man be teachable and open minded to learning concepts of living that may initially be new and foreign. This is necessary in order that the basis of the program, the 12-Steps as put forth in Alcoholics / Narcotics Anonymous, be learned and put into practice. Out of this learning grows a sense of community, of doing for others, of belonging. This sense of community is further reinforced once it is realized that the work performed by each and every resident, past, present, and to come, has built and maintained the H.O.W. Foundation for the past 35 years. Most importantly, through prayer, meditation, 12-Step meeting attendance and 12-Step work, one learns that the isolation of addiction turns to the fellowship of recovery.
