What is a te froedtert?

Te Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Inpatient Rehabilitation Program personalizes care to meet your needs. Te goal is to get you home safely, even if you are functioning at a diferent level than before your injury or illness. Your rehabilitation team is here to teach you and your family — ask questions at any time.

How long is terapy therapy?

Your therapy is scheduled for three hours per day, fve to seven days per week. Terapy hours are typically 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Nursing care will happen throughout the entire day. You will practice nursing care and therapy skills, even when not with a therapist or nurse.

Can you leave a hospital for a therapeutic community pass?

You may meet the criteria to leave the hospital for the purpose of a therapeutic community re-entry pass. Tis is dependent upon your team’s approval. You must inform your nurse before you leave the unit. For safety reasons, we need to know where to fnd you.

What is an IRF in Wisconsin?

Our inpatient rehabilitation facility (IRF) at Froedtert Hospital is one of the few of its kind in Wisconsin. It provides intensive rehab services in a hospital environment. Admission to an IRF is appropriate for patients with complex nursing, medical management and rehabilitative needs.

What is a rehabilitation nurse?

A physiatrist (rehabilitation physician) with specialized training and experience in rehabilitation services. A registered nurse with specialized training or experience in rehabilitation. A social worker and a case manager to assist with coordination of the discharge process.

What is spinal cord injury center?

The Spinal Cord Injury Center team helps you prepare for life after a spinal cord injury or a spinal cord dysfunction. The team guides you and your family through the rehabilitation process. Our goal? Promote recovery and maximize independence.

What is vocational counseling?

In addition, a vocational counselor helps patients prepare to return to work or school and performs on-site worksite evaluations. Finally, the program's recreational therapist helps patients develop effective strategies for adapting to spinal cord injury, making it easier for them to re-enter the community.

What is the difference between a physical therapist and an occupational therapist?

A physical therapist (PT) to optimize your mobility, strength and endurance. An occupational therapist (OT) to develop skills to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) (i.e. bathing, dressing, eating) A speech/language pathologist (SLP) to work on your language, cognition, communication and swallowing, if needed.

What is a psychologist?

A psychologist to help you with adjustment and coping skills for your emotional well-being. Other possible team members: dietician, respiratory therapist, vocational rehabilitation counselor, pharmacist and chaplain.

Specialities

Neurological physiotherapy assesses and treats people with disorders of the central nervous system that affect the brain, spinal cord and nerves. Neurological therapy is used to treat conditions such as brain injury, concussion, stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, balance and vestibular conditions.

Levels of care

Inpatient rehabilitation is typically recommended for people who have complex medical conditions where they are recovering from a serious injury or a stroke and would benefit from a multidisciplinary approach. Inpatient rehab physical means that the patient sleeps at the hospital or an inpatient rehab facility due to the severity of the injury.

What is a FIM?

Functional Independence Measures (FIM) are used to determine functional improvements or increased independence. The patient’s functional abilities are identified at admission, discharge and follow-up in the areas of self-care (including eating, grooming, bathing, dressing and toileting), bladder and bowel control, mobility, locomotion, communication and social cognition.
